In Malawi, thousands of rural communities remain disconnected from the internet yet have access to stable electricity. LightBridge Foundation is launching a pilot initiative to place offline AI “knowledge kiosks” in village centers across the country.
These kiosks run on low-cost, energy-efficient computing devices that host powerful language models entirely offline. Villagers can speak directly to the AI to access reliable health guidance, agricultural advice, educational tutoring, and small business support—in Chichewa and English.
By providing this critical knowledge locally, we aim to support healthier families, more informed farmers, and greater self-sufficiency in communities where traditional infrastructure remains out of reach. With each kiosk costing under $300, we’re proving that high-impact solutions don’t have to be high-cost.
